No one has been more helpful to me through the years on the subject of leadership than Jerry Wragg. Through personal conversation, preaching, and modelling, Jerry has helped me grow and mature as a leader. A host of other men would say exactly the same thing about Jerry´s ministry in their lives; therefore, I’m really excited to have Jerry offer this course at GSM. Joel James, Grace Fellowship
From Jerry Wragg´s up-coming book, Exemplary Spiritual Leadership
Ever since becoming a husband and father many years ago, I´ve been faced with the demands of spiritual leadership. Of course, being so young back then, I didn´t know the first thing about it, and lacked the understanding and experience to lead effectively. But life doesn´t seem to care whether we´re ready to lead or not .... Seasoned or just beginning, we´re expected to make difficult decisions, wisely navigate ethical dilemmas, protect and provide for others, model godly character, and remain steadfast for as long as we live .... My early years were filled with many mistakes, a few bright spots, and an increasingly desperate desire to learn what the essentials of strong, faithful leadership look like.
Leadership is sometimes described in management terms—a sort of business CEO model—and other times viewed though a more relational lens, where interpersonal skills are considered highly critical for effectiveness. The chasm between perspectives can leave any aspiring leader confused and overwhelmed. How do we boil it down?
I´m convinced that at the heart of an ability to influence others is a compelling life of fearless conviction and and a transcendent, divine message. A man who lives in the fear of God and boldly speaks his truth to the world is the kind of leader God promises to bless .... It´s no wonder that so many books on leadership can´t put their finger on the dynamics of spiritual influence. We must get back to the biblical principles that God says will make us useful to the Master. When a man´s life manifests a righteous character and the spiritual convictions which cannot be shaken, others can´t resist following.
